Hello, friend!
My name is Alyssa.
People express surprise when they see the adventurous spark in my soul. It’s like a secret I keep at a whisper until the right moment. And then it comes out in a rush of wild fury.
You might catch me running barefoot toward the Lake Michigan shoreline in late autumn. Up on my roof, talking hours away with my brothers until the summer stars peer out. Outside on rainy days hoping to get drenched. Yelling random things in almost any place with my best friend to express the sheer freedom of living loud.
I love traveling and in general, simply exploring God's creation in pursuit of finding beauty in the unexpected, common places (I might stop on the side of the road on rainy days to take a spontaneous trek in the woods). When I'm home with my family, much of my free time is spent in the kitchen, throwing things together to make messy creations. Yoga is also a frequent past time and I hope to one day learn yoga on a paddle board.
A little of my history: Although I have called upstate New York, Pennsylvania, Seattle, and central and northern Indiana home, I currently reside in small Upland, Indiana. Why Upland? I am pursuing a bachelors in professional writing at Taylor Univeristy and intend to graduate spring of 2022.
Writing is the intersection of my passions for creativity, imagination, empathy, restoration, and advocacy. One of my greatest passions is culture. For seven weeks this summer I was blessed to volunteer in Fiji. Working with Island Encounters, I served as a missionary nanny and mission intern. I got to experience parts of the Fijian culture while working at Oasis Farm and helping in local children's ministries.
I don't know how my future will be colored in, but I am excited to say I am in the dangerous season of unknown that calls for much prayer and faith. I hope you will join me on this journey together as we slip off our shoes and bask in the wonder and tension of glory on earth.
